2027 Qualifier

In order to register for the 2027 race, you must complete an official 50 miler in under 16 hours or complete any official 100K, 100 or 200 Miler under the cutoff before entering the lottery. If you ran an extremely difficult 43.5 miler we will also consider that as well (looking at you Tushar 70K). Ironman races are cool but are not qualifiers.

You must have completed the requirement within the last 4 years PRIOR to registering. Qualifying window is December 1, 2022 to December 1, 2026. We will verify all qualifiers via official race results from Ultrasignup and/or the race’s website. Anyone who registers but has failed to complete the required qualifier will not be allowed in the lottery.

Lottery for 2027

Unfortunately it is no longer possible to allow for general race entry by setting your alarm and frantically clicking. Due to the popularity and to not have the registration sites crash and not take your money, we have chosen to go to a lottery for 2026 and beyond. We wish we could still let everyone into the race the week prior like back in 2015, but that isn’t possible anymore. Remember those days?

For the 2026 race, we had 886 entrants in the lottery hoping for 300 spots + 300 on the waiting list. Odds were 28% for 1 ticket and 49% for 2 tickets to be drawn in the 300 spot pool. We will publish the numbers prior to the 2027 lottery so you know your chances. It will change year to year.

To learn more about the lottery method and plans go to the Bear100.com/Lottery page.

Volunteer Work

In order to give back to the community we require 8 hours volunteer work to be done prior to the race. The deadline is Sept 15th for submitting the work form. Please see the page Bear100.com/forms for more details.

General Info:

The BEAR 100 is a point to point 100 mile course that starts in Logan, UT and finishes near Bear Lake Utah. The first climb is the longest, with many more long climbs to follow with varying difficulties of descent. Some descents are smooth downhill while others are rocky. The course has a great mix of varied terrain. Late September was picked for the time of the run because of the beauty of the fall colors along with the cooler weather that we enjoy during that time of the year. You will see brilliant red maples and quaking aspens turning yellow which provides for a stunning contrast among the rocks and cliffs.

Bear 100 Course

The race begins at the mouth of Logan Dry Canyon, on the east bench of Logan, Utah. There are dozens of hotels within ten minutes of the start. Logan is a medium-sized university city with all the amenities you need, including an outdoor/running shop or two. It is less than two hours from the Salt Lake City International Airport.

Shuttle service from finish to start is $25 per runner + tax (optional for those that don’t have a ride).

Awards

All entrants will receive a beautiful tech shirt with a distinctive design. Finishers receive a belt buckle reflective of their time: a Black Bear buckle for times between 30-36 hours, a Grizzly Bear buckle for times between 24-30 hours, and a Wolverine buckle for times under 24 hours. All finishers will also be awarded a small wooden award unique to the year they run.

If you run fast enough (Top 3 Male & Female), in addition to the buckle, you will receive a small cash prize ($500, $300, $200) and a custom-engraved award documenting the accomplishment. First place male and female runners also receive a “Bear Tag” granting them a free & guaranteed entry into the next year’s race. There is also a $1,000 cash prize for a new course record. Oh and eternal bragging rights too.

Note: We are not affiliated with UTMB. We submit our results (without cost) so runners can have an UTMB index, which is one of the requirements to run their races. Use your dollars to support the races you enjoy.
