Important Update

Hey Bear 100 fam, Big News; we are stoked to announce a brand-new finish line in the heart of Garden City (Utah) at Conestoga Ranch! This is a big deal for the Bear 100 as a race and to all of you, the Bear 100 family. Read the fine print below to see what this affects for those of you running, crewing and spectating.

TL;DR – I don’t want to read anything – Skip to the (CalTopo) Map or the Strava Map

We have been working with the Forest Service to finalize a new route that would finish in Garden City Utah instead of Fish Haven Idaho (7 miles apart). We are excited to announce this new route has been approved and we think you will love it!

Due to how cool Bear Lake is, and its recent rise in popularity, open land large enough to accommodate our finish line has become scarce.  We have had 3 lovely hosts for our race in the last 6 years. The wonderful folks at The Reserve were generous to host us for 3 of those 6 years, ending on the high note of that incredible finish into the lake shore last year. Unfortunately, they are developing that beach area, and it isn’t available for us any longer. We are saddened by this, but we have worked hard to turn this into a net positive change.

The Details:

  • Start at Hyrum Gibbons Mt. Logan Park in Logan (as always)
  • Most of the first 75 miles remain the same, keeping the heart of the Bear course intact.
    • Swap South Syncline (doubletrack) and now run on North Syncline (singletrack) giving sweeping views of Logan Canyon at sunrise. Logan Peak aid has been moved up the trail a bit.
    • Move Franklin Basin Aid Station to a newly enlarged parking site right off the highway for better access for crews.
    • After Beaver Mountain Aid, instead of heading north into Idaho, you now run south on one of our favorite sweet singletrack trails (Stump Hollow) to Peter Sinks (!) Fun fact: Peter Sinks is a world famous geological site. Give it a google, but don’t worry, it won’t hit -69F in September like it did in Feb 1985.
    • We have replaced Gibson Basin Aid, Beaver Creek Aid and Ranger Dip Aid stations with the new Peter Sinks Aid, Burnt Fork Aid as well as a water stop between those 2 aid stations. (Unfortunately/fortunately you no longer have to climb the nasty steep section after Ranger Dip aid.)
    • From Burnt Fork Aid you will run down a fast downhill (rugged dirt road) into Garden City and to the finish line.
  • We adjusted around 25% of the course to be able to finish in a new town – Garden City.
  • We removed 0.25 mile of pavement
  • We removed 10 miles of doubletrack and replaced it with 10 miles of singletrack.
  • The climbing closely matches the previous course with around 350′ less climbing (still over 20K of climbing).
  • The expectation is that the course could be a few minutes faster but almost the same as before.
  • Now the entire race lies entirely within Utah. (Sorry for those that loved that sign at the Idaho border.)
  • Overall, a great route that most (if not everyone) will love!

We know this is a surprise for those of you training and prepping for September, so we wanted to get this info out there for you to adjust and plan accordingly. In line with this intention, here are more details about the finish line itself:
